Guitarist Allan Holdsworth is one of a handful of musicians who has consistently proven himself as an innovator in between and within the worlds of rock and jazz music, yet has never truly received the recognition that he so rightfully deserves.
Born on August 6, 1946, in Bradford, Yorkshire, Holdsworth was originally taught music by his father, who was a pianist.
Allan's early recordings include stints with
Soft Machine, Gong, U.K. and
Bruford, as well as fusion favourites, Tony Williams
Livetime and
Jean-Luc Ponty.
Allan smooth legato (fluid) style and lightning speed runs made him a very interesting and sought after lead guitarist.
In the 1980's Allan began to bring his own music to light.
IOU, Road Games and
Metal Fatigue rocked the guitar world with a unique musical approach and sound.
With the release of
Atavachron he introduces the guitar synthesizer;
the Synthaxe. With the amazing album
Sixteen Men of Tain Allan returned to his own originals and a near abandonment of the Synthaxe.
